My wife, Alyson, and I have two sons, Chuck and Courtney; one grandson and future duck hunter, Walt; and a yellow lab, Daisy.

My Profession:

My Gun:
Benelli 3.5 and Browning BPS

My Duck Call:
A cheap Sure Shot

My Favorite Thing about Cypress Run:
When I first started hunting with Will, Jim and Danny, my family lived in Wynne. We moved back to El Dorado in 2000, but the 3-hour trip back is well worth it because of our land and our privacy. And we’re built tradition. We’ve kept daily logs of our hunts for years, and our sons and grandsons who grew up in the blind are starting to work and take care of the club. They seem to enjoy it as much as we do. I think it’s really interesting that photos of our blind have gone viral. Everyone likes to claim its theirs.

Why I Love Duck Hunting:
I enjoy the “getting ready” part— the boats, the guns, the shells. We love being there early in the morning, meeting up with everyone, and preparing to get away and have fun. What’s really great is bringing friends to our blind for the first time. They never cease to be amazed.

My First Duck Hunt:
My first hunt was on New Year’s Day in 1978 with Gary Miller and Les Chandler at the old Worthen Bank Duck Club at Point D’luce. There were 10 of us, and we filled full mallard limits. I was hooked. My wife wouldn’t speak to Gary for 6 months. We still hunt together at least once a year, going on 33+ years.

My Favorite Duck Hunting Memory:
Some are my favorites are hunting out of the boat at Felsenthal when Courtney was about 6. He was usually more interested in what we were cooking than the ducks. When he was about 10, we started wading with my friend Tom B. Smith at Mallard Point, his club in Weiner. It was classic green-tree reservoir hunting. I like to think I haven’t had my most memorable hunt yet.

My Favorite Meal During Duck Season:
The Blind Breakfast— eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy
