CODY CRAWFORD
Where I Live:
Fayetteville, AR
Where I Grew Up: El Dorado,
AR
My Family: My wife, Joni, and
I have three children, Reed, Anna Grace and Drake.
My Profession: Owner, CR
Crawford Construction
My Gun: Remington VersaMax
and Browning Maxus Hunter
My Duck Call: An Echo Meat
Hanger is my call of choice, and a Zink Call, which I like
because it’s loud.
My Favorite Thing About Cypress Run:
It’s perfectly located in the
Mississippi Flyway so when conditions are normal, it’s the most
consistent and most productive spot I’ve ever hunted. Of course,
having an unbelievable lodge near the water where you can watch
the ducks roost while standing around a fire is pretty cool,
too.
Why I Love Duck Hunting:
There is no other hunting that compares. You can hunt in the
same hole with friends and family and actually enjoy that time
together. It’s very social. And there’s nothing that comes close
to describing the feeling on those occasional days when the sky
turns black with ducks.
My First Duck Hunt: I was too
young to remember, but it had to be with my Dad at Felsenthal,
the family camp we own with the Menefees. I hunted with a 410
single shot. I remember once spending the night in the boat
underneath a bag of decoys with Courtney Menefee next to me to
stay warm so we could reserve our duck hole, which was on public
hunting grounds.
My Favorite Duck Hunting Memory:
When I was 10, I went hunting with my dad, Craig Smart and
Dr. Steve Smart. My dad, who has hunted his whole life, had
never killed a banded duck. A greenhead circled, and Dad let Dr.
Smart shoot. It was the first duck he’d ever killed… and it was
banded. I also remember three days at Felsenthal with James and
Chris Hollensworth, John Felton and Matt Orr when mallards lit
on us like mosquitoes. There were thousands with no calling and
only six decoys, which they could’ve cared less about.
My Favorite Meal During Duck Season:
A huge medium rare rib-eye
